The phrase was popularized by Seth Godin in his book Purple Cow, where he argues that in a crowded marketplace, products, services, or ideas must be remarkable to capture attention. Just as a literal purple cow would immediately draw notice in a herd of regular cows, a unique offering in any context-business, marketing, or personal branding-attracts awareness and engagement.
